Calgary Fire Department responds to house fire on 13 A Street North East

At approximately 12:50 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 600 block of 13A Street NE. Upon arrival to the home which was under construction, crews were faced with large flames extending from the basement and main floor windows.

Fire crews utilized a transitional attack to knock the flames down from the outside for the structure, allowing for an aggressive interior attack. Interior fire attack crews reported that the fire had compromised the main floor requiring all interior crews to exit the residence. Aerial ladders and hand lines were used from the outside the home to continue to extinguish the fire.

The firefighting efforts were hampered due to the severe grade difference between the front and back of the house, as well as limited access to the rear of the lot. ENMAX was required on scene to shut down power to the building and the Calgary Police Service was also in attendance to assist with local traffic control.

There were no injuries reported at the scene. Fire crews remain at the incident searching for fire extension and hot spots. A Calgary Fire Department fire investigator is on scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this time.
